Paris was a beautiful city, full of amazing, wonderful things to do, see, eat and feel. The people were very friendly and everything was so perfect. It far surpassed my extremely high expectations. We talked 60kms in total and took 627 photos in 4 days/5 nights... check the blog soon for more photos, explanations and even some annecdotes.

FINAL-FRIKKIN-LY

FolioUpdate

HALF INSPIRED BY LINUS, HALF BY THE OVERWHELMING, ALL-CONSUMING TERROR OF NOT GETTING A JOB BEFORE RUNNING OUT OF MONEY I've updated my portfolio website. And I don't want to sound pompous, but holy-freaking-crap it's totally awesome! I totally like it! Oh sure, it's got some rough edges that need to be cleaned up, and it's a little slow on the loading (so be patient!!!) but overall I have never been happier!

Check it out by clicking on the link on the top left (where it says LINKS) or click on this image.

Up2You

DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYONE IN LONDON? We need to put down someones name on our VISA application forms for the UK. It's only as a point of reference, they probably won't be contacted, and we won't bother them. Can you let me know if you do?

SO CLOSE, AND YET...

WE WENT TO GALWAY FOR THE WEEKEND. Which is at the opposite side of the country, directly west of Dublin. It was a load of fun. We stayed in a dorky B'n'B, we were all 'unwed interracial couple', in a strict Catholic house. HA! Aside from that awkwardness, and our poor fish and chips for dinner (they seem to be very bad everywhere in 'rland)...

Um, I've lost track of where I'm going with this: We had a lot of fun. We went on a tour around Galway and into county Clare. That's where Dermo lives! We saw a Castle (we saw 5 really, but this was the best one), The Burren; a barren rocky 200km wasteland, A cool cave, Another megalithic structure (think Stonehenge from 'Spinal Tap'), and most coolily The Cliffs of Moher. The photo doesn't do any sort of justice, they were 5 miles long and really really high! It was awesome. Totally freaking awesome.

Ireland is a gorgeous country, a shame about Dublin.

PS. The west coast of Ireland is the closest I've been to America since I've left. And more specifically the closest I've EVER been to New York. Getting nervous. Excited. And nervous again.

CHILDREN OF MEN, IN REVERSE

LordoftheFlies

THE OTHER DAY WAS HALLOWEEN. And far from being the fun, candy crazed, costumed madness of my childhood, this Halloween was genuinely scary. Admittedly we do live in a rough neighbourhood, but it was scary. The day was fine, but as soon at it went dark (5pm) people went mad. We caught the bus home, and driving past one of the government housing projects we saw 50 kids, no older than 12 running around with fireworks, firing them at cars and our bus. Also there was a bonfire of tyres and a seperate bonfire taller than a house. And this was in a small patch of grass on the corner of two busy roads, not in the middle of nowhere! There's nice houses on the otherside of the road.

We got home safely, walking past some kids dressed as skeletons (without the masks, which would require effort). They waited until we walked past and said "trick or treat". I told them to wait outside, I'd give them some candy. They were dressed up after all, so they did deserve some, even if they were rude. I went inside and got some Root Beer barrels for them.

ME: "Here you go. This is special candy from America."
KID: "We don't want that shit."

They walked away angrily. I was PISSED OFF! Mostly because I had already given them the candy, and wanted it back. Later I found out that kids here don't want candy at all, but money. No freakin' way!

There was another knock on the door. I thought I'd give the kids one more shot. It was a little 6-year-old girl dressed as a princess.

PRINCESS: "Trick or Treat." (not a question)
ME: "Here", handing her some more Root Beer barrels.

She stood there staring at me annoyed, like I was some sort of idiot, who didn't know what I was doing. No 'thank you's, no polite acceptance of the candy, even if she didn't want it. Not a princess at all.

I slammed the door in her face (remember; she was 6), making sure she knew I was annoyed. And locked the three locks.

There were more knocks on the door, but I didn't answer. We turned off the lights and stayed in the bedroom so they thought we weren't home. Stupid Dublin kids. I really really don't like them.

THE FIRST SNOW

Ice1

IT SNOWED TODAY!!!!! It's all cold and slushy. We made a snowman, and had a snowball fight. It was great. Or, or, it would have been if it wasn't really just frost scraped out of the freezer. The photo was taken when only half the frost was out, so there is a lot more! It really is cold here though, last night was 2º. Today was 8º. Cold. But it will snow soon, apparently. They're setting up a iceskating ring near our house, so we'll be doing that soon. Should be awesome!
