THE WEEKEND (or 'Summer?')

SummerRain
UNG-rain
SummerSea
SO LIKE I SAID, IT'S APPARENTLY SUMMER NOW. Although the pouring rain and 8 degree highs might disagree. We had jackets, jumpers, layers upon layer; and freezing cold.

DERMO AND ANNA. SUCH A LOVELY EXAMPLE OF INTER-SPECIES BONDING.

WELL ANYWAY, TO CELEBRATE we went to Ed's house in Bray. Had some drinks, and some good Indian food, and had some fun times. BUT before we got there, the train was a mild disaster. Remeber when we went to Dun Laoghaire? Well Bray is a few stops after that; 40 minutes max. But 20m before that station at Bray the train stopped. For 10 minutes. The conductor came on the PA; "Uh, there is some sort of problem. We're not sure how long it is going to be". Woohoo. We waited another 15 min, PA announcement again, not sure how long it would take. After 30-40 minutes we were getting sick of wating. Other passengers were getting impatient. And the carriage was stuffy. I was getting a bit claustrophobic.

Brian and me wedged the doors open. Nice cool air.

"HEY! What do you think you're doing?", yells a train attendant. "Well, just having a smoke. We're getting sick of waitng". "You made me walk all the way down here! Sit down and wait like everyone else!"

Moderately embarrasing.

Oh by the way; Brian is our new flatmate. He's cool.

FLAVOUR OF THE DAY

Oxygen1

I GOT A CALL FROM THE MARKETING-PEOPLE OF OXYGEN MUSIC FESTIVAL to do some t-shirt designs for them. They're pretty casual about it all, saying if I had any designs lying around that I wanted to submit they'd use them. But being the overeager fool I am I did some new stuff. Of course. But being music and very fad-ish, I don't mind just using some styles that have been done to death before. As a practice I did the masthead, and this drawing here. Pretty cool. But pretty generic too.

Check out their sites:
'www.oxygen.ie' and 'www.electricpicnic.ie' to get an idea of what I mean...

ALSO: I got shortlisted in the DIA design competition I entered through Liveworm. So that's cool. I'll find out soon that I didn't win. But "it's an honor to be nominated".

I MADE THE CUT!

logo

WE HAD TO DEVELOP LOGO'S for a hardware/DIY/Home Decor company. The bosses sold their designs to the max! and actually didn't let me talk about mine at all. And out of 68 different versions they selected 5. Including mine! Hooray! I'm not a TOTAL failure.

IESSO

PS. They chose the TOP version. The bottom one is too feminine. (despite the fact they're trying to target women. Oh well!)

1 MONTH

A HECK OF A LOT HAS HAPPENED IN THE LAST MONTH. It feels so much longer!

HERES A DUMB SUMMARY OF WHAT HAPPENED SO FAR...
1. We got to go to Korea which was exciting but short. A nice teaser for international jetsetting.
2. Arrive in Dublin and reunite with long-lost friends. Awesome!
3. Live in 3 places in as many weeks.
4. Get 500 business cards printed! Exciting novelty!
5. Freak out because we're running out of money and have nowhere to live. Not fun!
6. Post up my profile on Creative Ireland. Get a few rejections straight away.
7. Land an interview with a company my friends tried to get into.
8. Score a sweet job with that very same company.
9. Go to Dun Laoghaire to relax before starting work.
9. Freak out totally because I have ZERO money left.
10. Search desperately for a place to live, only to be turned down again and again.
11. Hear a rumour that the place next to our friends is recently vacated.
12. Luck-out with a cool place.
13. Pull as many sttrings to get as much money as possible to cover the rent and deposit.
14. Get job offers through Creative Ireland, refer them to UNG.
15. UNG gets 2 jobs! I have feelings of regret with my job.
15. Have a boring and frustrating birthday.
16. Hate my new job. Want to leave but feel trapped.
17. Want to go home. Hate Ireland.
18. Have a mini-revalation and decide to stay.
19. At work, hoping things will get better. Optimistic.

THINGS I WANT TO HAVE DONE IN THE NEXT 7 MONTHS:
1. Travel around Europe (France, Denmark, Holland, Scandanavia, Czech Rep. Poland, Bulgaria)
2. Travel to North Africa (Morocco, Egypt)
3. Work on at least one project I can put in my folio.
4. Revise my folio to be the best it can be. Need to prepare for NY.
5. Have some money saved up (US$8000, but preferably US$10000)
6. Take some great photos.
7. Visit the UK (in particular; rural Ireland, Edinburough, London)
8. Get UNG drunk (just once)
9. Figure out some sort of plan for the future regarding UNG and me (with regards to work Visa's etc.)
10. GET TO NEW YORK!!!

WE WERE LOOKING FOR A FLATMATE to move into the place so we can get some money. So instead of doing samey-samey photos of the flat I illustrated them instead. They look good and hopefully would've attracted some arty-type. We actually found someone to move in already, without ever having to put the photos up, but thats not the point.

IESSO

PS. I like the drawings so much I want to work them into a spread or something for a mock real-estate mag. and put them into my folio. HUZZAH!

QUICKIE

Alien-ID

GOTS TO BE FAST!

1. UNG got a job! she actually has 2!! I got a call for an interveiw but I told them I was already employed so I referred them to her. She got a job. BUT only for 2 weeks. I got ANOTHER call for another interview at another place, again, passed them on to her. She got THAT job too. BUT of course she can't do two jobs, so; she worked at Place 2 yesterday and this morning, and Place 1 for the next 2 weeks, and back to Place 2 again! CRAZY!!!!

2. My job is crap. They're mean, insulting, and making my head explode. And making me cry. No. Seriously. So I need to find another, BETTER job. Nervous about quiting though. I need the money and not sure if they'd pay me or not. So we'll see.

3. Haven't done anything exciting, gone out anywhere or ANYTHING. Been worked off my feet. Get home at about 9.30 every night. Which is sucky. BUT I have some cool photos and want to do some interesting illustrations tonight so i don't go insane. Will keep you updated on that one.

4. We had to register as Foriegn Nationals by this monday (one month since arriving). It was long and boring BUT we got cool ID cards! We have ALIEN IDENTIFICATION CARDS! Plus it's cool cuz' it's all in Irish as well. Actually EVERYTHING is the two languages but it's cool for YOU GUYS to see.

IESSO

PS. Im sorry for not posting much. Life is a bit boring now (strangely). The holiday/tourist mode is OVER!
PPS. I cut my hair. It looks dumb, but at least its not AS dumb as the long hair.

PS. READ the post below. It's weird.

TWO IN ONE HOUR!

TWO SOMEWHAT BIZARRE STORIES:

1. Walking home from looking at a flat to live in (no luck) I was REALLY hungry and tired. There was a fish and chip shop with a small bag for €1 so I thought thatd be good, specially with some salt-n-vinegar action. Walked in and was immediately accosted. "YOU'RE A JEW", says a little kid pointing a finger at me! I was shocked. And confused. And a bit scared. There was a lot of them and not sure of the anti-semitism scene in Dublin. Anyway I sort of ignored him but he wouldnt shut up. Soon all the kids were asking me questions; "Are you a jew?", "Do you eat pork?", "Can you speak English?". One girl asked the first kid how he knew and he pointed at my 'I love Shiksas' shirt (which was a star of david instead of a heart).

The lady running the shop kept trying to get them to shut up but they wouldnt. The fry-cook felt so guilty for attracting such pestering customers that he gave me a HUGE bag for free!

2. Again walking home, I walked through the main shopping district. I heard a phone ringing and assumed it was just a mobile, but it wasnt, it was a payphone! I walked past, ignoring it. But then stopped. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I had to answer it. I did! Wrong number. Kind of disappointing that it wasn't all "Phonebooth", but still. Besides Colin Farrel sucks...

WORK!

SO HERE I AM AT WORK NOW. Oh man I was scared last night. Like, terrified. Could NOT sleep. AT ALL. Well, a bit, but still not a healthy way to start my day. Anyway I'm here, I woke up, and get here on time (felt weird to wake at 7.30a instead of the usual 1p) but the walk was nice and calm(ish). There were loads of people marching to work, it felt like we were all in it together and we were going somewhere EXCITING!

Anyways the design agency is called Climate, you'll have to type the address in the old-fashioned way (manually) 'www.climate.ie' [the "ie" stands for Ireland!]. They do stuff I'm not used to doing; loads of corporate identity, packaging and even resturant signages. Which will be totally cool...

I'M EXCITED! (and scared)

(sort of a response-style post)

HEY!!!

UNG is good (I think). She doesnt have a job YET! but will totally have a much awesomer-than-me-one soon. We're living in a hostel now and it's a bit sucky (the taps are noisy and wake us up) but we'll be getting our own place soon [so ADULT!!!]

We went to Dun Laoghaire (pronounced as per post title) today, which is a seaside town and it was nice. COLD! The normal temp was 8deg, but with the wind, rain and ocean spray it was much coldly. Will post some photos soon!!!

talk soon. Work starts tomorrah! NERVVVOOUUUSSSS!!!
