HOME SWEET HOME updated

Shmuck

Here's some more photo's of Vienna.

And here's the post from the other night:
IT SURE IS GOOD TO BE BACK IN AUSTRALIA. Vienna is pretty cool actually, despite warnings to the contrary. I'm in my hotel room at the moment typing, having forgot my camera cable, so alas, no pictures untill tomorrow. I've only had a few hours to explore, but it has been fun. I've eaten a lot of food too (it's with company money!); goulash with boiled potatoes, weiners with mustard and horseradish and for a snack kasekrainer, which is a spicy sausage filled with pieces of cheese and served with mustard and brown bread! YUM!

THAT'S LIKE A MAJOR NEWS NETWORK OR SOMETHING!

BBC

A WHILE BACK they put some grass down in Trafalgar Square. It was pretty nice actually. I was lying there reading my book when a reporter interviewed me and took my picture. It was pretty cool. Here's the web article. And here's a photo from my point of view.

Hilariously I purposely said the word 'tactile' because it's a good soundbite!

A BELATED BIRTHDAY WISH

3-Years

IT'S BEEN 3 YEARS SINCE MONDAYNE BLOG WAS STARTED. And it sure has been fun. Well, sort of. I guess in recent times the blog's been waning, and instead of making promises of changing all that, I'm just going to say that I'll update things when I can, or want to. But thank you to everyone for reading over the years. It has been good.

In other news; I'm going to Vienna on monday for business! Just for the day and returning tuesday night, but it should be fun. I'm going all by myself though, so I'm a tad nervous. I have a phrasebook though. And I promise to take a bunch of photo's.

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE OVER THERE?

I'M IN A CONFERENCE CALL TO NEW YORK RIGHT NOW, well, not right now, but a few minutes ago, and in a few minutes from now too. It's pretty cool. The power to speak internationally, without worrying about money, and to be talking someone through a photoshop technique while both of us are doing the same thing at the same time... it's pretty cool. But not really.

PS. The people in NYC hilariously sound like and have the exact same speech patterns as my parents, and I'm not really used to people saying my name a lot (as these guys do, as well as my mom) so it's really weird and funny. I'm about to laugh (and/or punch myself in the face because it's really tedious!) as I explain this photoshoppery!

PPS. I totally ripped off Linus's 'A Filter Darkly' technique (version 1) to use in a project. But I changed it enough to claim it as my own. Which is kinda a jerky thing to do, but I was under pressure and didn't realise the scope of the project, and now it's much too late. So thanks Linus! And also, sorry that you won't get paid for it.

THAT'S WHY I CALLED IT MONDAYNE

Band.jpg

Oddly there was a marching band downstairs. And whenever something bizarre like this happens to me, I'm the only one there to see it. It was very surreal. I was standing there counting my coins to buy a sandwhich and the walk right up to me and then spin around. It was very insane. Very.

Muffins.jpg

My parents went to Canada years ago and asked for 'Canadian Bacon' (which is different to American bacon bytheway), the reply was that ALL bacon in Canada was Canadian. Similarly Dermo jokes that a Full Irish (breakfast) is just called a 'Full' in Ireland. I always thought that these were funny and jokingly wondering if they just called English Muffins in England 'Muffins'. Which they do.

iPodTouch.jpg
The iPod touch is amazing. I would like one. I would very much like one.

Lastly; in the UK the term 'Asian' is very strangely applied. Soryi isn't Asian according to British meaning. People from India, Pakistan, Bangledesh, and places including the Middle East are called 'Asian' here. For what USA/Australians call Asian the British call 'Chinese'. And if you're not actually from China then you're called 'Other Chinese ethnicity'. Which is completely insane! Otherwise instead of Chinese they use the term 'Oriental', which I thought was outdated, old-fashioned and a littel racist. Soryi was shocked and appalled.

JUSTIFICATION OF MY EXISTENCE

Justified

OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. Basically because of legal reasons I can't actually show you any work I've done. But what I can show you is a bunch of pixels, showing that I have done work though! In the scramble is a cool brand, including logo, packaging, store design, several styles of ads and two custom typefaces, an identity pitch for a city, a typeface for a bank, guidelines for an investment company, work for a charity, illustrations for a phone manufacturer, bank brochures and a few internal projects including a book, a website and a poster.

All in that? Yes, it is true.

I'm sorry I can't show anything yet though. I'd like to, I really would. But I've signed confidentiality agreements, so I won't discuss anything further. Hopefully it's vague enough to keep me safe, but detailed enough to not just be "doing stuff".

STILL SICK, BUT MORE LIKE A CAT NOW

I'M NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS EITHER. But I'm well enough to be back at work, getting paid, but too sick to work hard enough to earn it. I've got a kidney infection. We both do actually. Dunno, how, when, where, why we got it but we do. And it's totally annoying. Can't eat, constantly feeling overly full, or hungry, and anything we eat doesn't stay for long.

But in other news, Chris Chong will be visiting sunny London in a few weeks. That is gonna be a load of funtimes. And the shall be had by all.

ALSO: It's friggin October already? What is up with THAT?!
