I figure if I'm gonna be doing a poster in a funny writing it might as well be something close to home. And by home I mean me. Sort of. Actually I can't say a single thing. Or write anything. "Excuse me Mr. Neill, I'm sorry to bother you but.... um... uh..... well, when I was a kid I saw Jurassic Park, and it was my favourite movie. and um... it still is... it inspired me to be a paleon.... uh... nevermind. Could I please trouble you for an autograph?"
For a millisecond I realised it might not have been him and I was an idiot.
"Sure" (and I knew it was him. COOL VOICE!)
I got an autograph and spilled my guts to my hero! It was cool.

Just playing around in Photoshop. Trying to make photos look old and artificially colored. I think it's reasonably successful. The Sydney one is particularly nice, with the color distortions.
So who is the booklet for? Microsoft? Hewlett Packard? Some sort of generic technology company at any rate. Let's see, we have BIG photos, with quotes from credible sources, sexy girls and hipster kids. Of course its for technology!
But it's not THAT bad right? RIGHT???

REMEMBER THAT ANXIETY BROCHURE I did in my first week of Climate? Well the client has FINALLY come back with some minor changes. Aside from the text changes there was a total redesign needed. Hmmm. Am I becoming a designer that I never wanted to be? Or am I getting better? Worse? WHO KNOWS?
Also the Angle Books arrived today: TOTALLY COOL!

UPDATE:
The anxiety brochure is making me crazy! The client hates the beach theme, apparently it reminds them of holidays. OH NO! Not a calm, relaxing holiday! Thats the LAST thing someone with stress needs. Anyway they MADE me use images of stepping stones (Ranked No.3 on the list of image cliches [a close third behind (1) Relay batons being passed and (2) People of different races shaking hands, and directly ahead of vector butterflies, money with people with goofy expressions and puzzle/maze analogies!]) HOORAY!
Its funny that this brochure which is supposed to help people does so much harm to the first person who see's it (me). It's all downhill from here!

IT SUCKS WHEN YOU'RE 'DESIGNING' UNDER A RIGID BRANDING MARK. 'specially when it's your boss who came up with the identity, no room to move at all! Ugh! Oh how I dream of working for Coke, whos brand is so established all they have to do is use RED and you know what it is! SuperValu might be a bit less recognisable. Perhaps.

WE WENT TO DUN LAOGHAIRE for a design and art exhibition at the school where some friends studied. It was interestingly boring. I was amazed, it made OUR work look good! And it was funny that the 'interactive media' exhibition had the same name as our 'digital design' exhibition! HAHAH! Aside from that we had a nice weekend, enjoyed the warm air and even played some spontaneous, no rules soccer! Good stuff. Although Brian kept calling penalties off of UNG.

IT IS ACTUALLY SUMMER NOW. We've had a week of glorious sunshine! Notice I'm singing a different tune about the sun since Brisbane. Well it's because the Irish know how to do sun, its not OTT. We done get months of blistering heat. Its a warm 25 with a nice cool breeze. Sitting in the sun is warm but the shade is cool. Perfect!
This weekend is a long-weekend for us. We went to Pheonix Park (largest walled park in Europe) yesterday and the National Museum of Ireland (which has a cool logo for you to check out). And then we had a BBBQ. Fun day.
ALSO. The ipod as a TV is kind of ridiculous.

OK, SO IN THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS I've posted up some images, without explanation. As you probably gathered its for something called Phantom, and has something to do with music. Well, Phantom was a pirate radio station in Dublin, playing indie/altrock type music. They're launching their station all-legit. like in August, and these are posters for that.
Why have I done what I've done? Well... with the simple illustrations I've avoided any sort of advertising type dealie, and went back a step. It says all it needs to say, mostly without actually SAYING anything. I like that. Draw from it what you want, or don't if you don't want. Nice and subtle.
The rainbowguitar is a more proactive approach, but again without trying too hard. Perhaps a bit literal, but I think I might blame the lack of a copy-writer. Yeah, that sounds good. Nice colors, indie-stylings, what more do you need?

OH THE IRONY OF PHOTOS ABOUT PHOTOS. My mind boggles. But don't I look cool in my Velvet smoking jacket, one of the cool things of Ireland; cool things! And before you go and tell me off for wasting my money on stuff instead of saving it (A) it was cheap and B) it's my birthday present!
UNG still hasn't posed for a photo yet. Except for a Polaroid I took moments earlier, but I don't have a scanner. But she has a nice laugh thing going, so I can't complain too much.
