ONCE IN A WHILE

I'm having a lazy morning today. It feels pretty good, despite the things I was supposed to do.
1. Go to my Flash class
2. Work on the mountain of projects I've been assigned
3. Go on a date

So maybe that last one was a good thing that I'm skipping, but it's sorta hard to go out somewhere when you're not actually there. At any rate I'm sorry about that 'unamed girl who I wish I could write the name of, but she asked me not to'. Anyway I'll be going into work soon enough, hold yer horses. And besides I am gonna be working the entire weekend on these projects so there. And hopefully Unamed Girl wil be there to keep me company (and work on her own stuff too!) so that'd be nice.

What was the point of this post?! Oh yeah, I'm at home procrastinating. YAY!

MY REPUTATION PRECEEDS ME

I APPARENTLY HAVE A BIT OF A REP. FOR MY SEXUAL INNUENDOS, DOUBLE ENTENDRES AND THE LIKE, SO WITH THAT IN MIND:

Jewish Guy

An elderly Italian Jewish man wanted to unburden his guilty conscience by talking to his Rabbi. "Rabbi, during World War II, when the Germans entered Italy, I pretended to be a 'goy" and changed my name from Levi to Spamoni and I am alive today because of it."

"Self preservation is important and the fact that you never forgot that you were a Jew is admirable," said the Rabbi.

"Rabbi, a beautiful Jewish woman knocked on my door and asked me to hide her from the Germans. I hid her in my attic and they never found her."

"That was a wonderful thing you did and you have no need to feel guilty."

"It's worse Rabbi. I was weak and allowed her to repay me for my efforts with her sexual favours."

"You were both in great danger and would have suffered terribly if the Germans had found her. There is a favourable balance between good and evil and you will be judged kindly. Give up your feelings of guilt."

"Thank you, Rabbi. That's a great load off my mind. But I have one more question."

"And what is that?"

"Should I tell her the war is over?"

DOES THAT SAY UNI10? UNO? WHAT THE HELL!?

UN10-1

I'm working on a booklet for Griffith University for a program getting kids of disadvantaged backgrounds into the uni system. It's a noble cause, and better than that; I get to have fun doing it! YAY! Experimenting! HOORAH! The only problem, and it's a doozey let me tell you, is that I;ve made it so much more complex than it needed to be, and therefore a heck of a lot more work. And the deadline stays the same. But I've got the designs worked out, all I gots to do now is actually do it. So stop distracting me!

IESSO

PS. A quick word about copyrights, don't steal these images (because they're so awesome I'm worried about plagarism [??] but yeah, if you do, I will f*cking hunt you down like a dawg. And besides, you wouldn't be stealing from me, you'd be stealing from those poor kids. And if you can just make one child smile, it'd all be worth it. Wait, that doesn't make sense. Don't steal! The rights are owned by me; Elliott Scott, Liveworm Studio and Griffith Uni. And Griffith is one bitch you don't wanna mess with!)

OF ALL THE BLOGS IN ALL THE WORLD, YOU HAD TO COME WALKING INTO MINE

If you were lucky enough to catch the fleeting post about a girl I like good for you. I was going to say I'm smitten over her. But I actually found what it means; To attack someone violently. And to be really attracted to someone. Weird that words can have such opposite meanings.

Yeah, I'm the latter.

STUPID POINTLESS FUN

At work today Jen asked what my favourite word was. Without missing a beat I told her it was MEANDER. I dunno why, I just like it. It's a cool word. And now, because I can, and also because I'm avoiding writing stuff of importance but is sensitive privvy information, here is a list of my favourite words. See if you can find a pattern in them.

Meander
Riboflavin
Rotunda
Flabbergasted
Nacho
Generic
Retort
Asertain
Simularcra
Prefecture
Presume
Oxymoron
Trapezium
Onomatopoeia
Triceratops
Mesopotamia
Oligarchy
Portabello
Hyperbole
Rasterize*
Rasberry
Rickshaw
Eurasia
Paleo-lithic
Mise-en-scene
and Double Entendre

Presuppose
Friscalating
Cromulent
(Fake words, but still cool!)

Most of 'em have R's and or O's in them. Any other patterns? Multisyllablic?

Post a bunch of your favourite words, and in particular your ABSOLUTE favourite, maybe it will say somethng about you as a person. Meander. Aimlessly meandering through life...
By the way the meaning is unrelated to the liking of the word. Just focus on the sounds of the words. But that probably self-evident. Oh and try to keep it in English if you can, I know, the last 2 words are French, but they're used in English all the time. So there!

IESSO

PS. My favourite word to use in sentences is METHINKS. It sounds like you're a dumbass, but really you're not.

PPS. For extra credit points tell me what words you don't like, or even hate! I can't think of any off of the top of my head. Possibly any thing with a Z instead of an S (eg. SkillZ) Or crappy contractions like synergy. They bug me. And lame-ass text messaging words like CUL8R or B4. They really annoy me. Just spend the extra 20cents and write properly! And 'bi-atch'. That annoys me too. And Phish. That really annoys me. 'Happy-snap'. That's a crappy phrase.

* I had to have at least one designish word in there didnt I!? Don't judge me!

PROMISES PROMISES PROMISES

I've got a longer post to write soon, so bare with me here. In the meantime have a ponder with this little nugget of quality thought. A chicken McNugget, and it's got some sweet'n'sour sauce to dip!

BLOG PERFORMANCE ART: I'm been thinking of this idea for a while. Sometimes I post a little entry and then realise I don't really want people to read it, so I delete it a minute later. But sometimes people see it.

What if that was the whole thing. I post things for only a few minutes, maybe an hour, and if people read it cool, if not even better! It's a lot more personal, you can say things that you wouldn't normally say (I really have some cool things to say, but I can't really say them on Mondayne because other people will read. It's a terrible form of self-censorship, and leads to bland posting about safe topics. And that just sucks!) But with this performance blog you can totally avoid all that because the post is fleeting. AND it's got this whole exhibitionist theme: Mondayne puts the info out there for the world to read, but the performance site only flashes the information. You have to catch the post while it's there. A crude and vulgar analogy would be to a flasher opening up their trenchcoat to reveal their nude body, as opposed to a nude beach of Mondayne, with all the info hanging out all the time. Which is more exciting?

Ok, so that's it for now. Just think about it, I reckon it's a cool idea. But maybe it's just me.

I'M BACK, BACK FROM THE FUTURA

Yeah I might have watched Back to the Future a few minutes ago. And maybe, just maybe it might have influenced these concepts a little bit. But you can't prove anything.

88

Hoverboard

Anyway I definitely need some help with these ones. I think the one with the sparks will work a lot better if I use my graphics tablet, but it's at work so that might wait. And the hover board one needs some text saying: "We're still waiting" but I couldnt figure out where to put it and what sorta style it should be in, so I left it out. Linus, if you would be so kind as to offer a suggestion?

IESSO

PS. Keep reading, there are 2 more posts below since last night. I've been a busy boy. A busy ANGRY boy. Intrigued? Read on.

DISHEARTENED

You know I'm not one to judge, but surely you can understand my disappointment and self doubt when I see these shirts posted up on threadless, but not my own gummi-bear design. I really liked it, and thought it was really cute and had some hope for it, but no, not even a response after the initial response saying they're received my file and will post it up pending approval.

Here's my competition. My heart sinks when I see them.

Headphone-Girl
The drawing is kinda weird. She doesn't look right at all. And the concept is generic at best.

Trike
No. You'd find this at BustedTee's not Threadless.

Eureka
Quite like the concept here, but the drawing style is sorta lacking.

Fish
Again, like the cute idea, but that stick-man kills it.

These ones aren't even that generic cool sorta style that I don't really like, but at least admit takes a lot of skill and is pretty good design. Yet they still get approval over mine. I'm hurt and insulted. But mainly doubting my abilities and whether I should really be pursing this career path.

A sullen Elliott Scott, signing off.

PS. Yes, it does make me feel better to insult other peoples work. But you see where I'm coming from here right???

Gummy Bear

YOU'RE CUTE WHEN YOU'RE ANGRY

Don't even get me started about today. Ok, too late, look what you gone and made me do. I'M ANGRY! I've just turned green and but not any more muscular. >sigh<

We selected the theme for out end-of-year graduation catalog, which showcases our work. That's fine, I had no problems with that. The thing that got me angry was a few peoples attitudes. They don't seem to have any sense of humour. (for the record 2/3 of them were German. Zee Germans are not a funny people. I'm not embracing stereotype, this is through observation only)

1. K_t - Will was standing on the stage of the lecture theatre: "I'm taller than you all!" He was obviously just being goofy. K_t replies with a little-miss-know-it-all attitude: "That's because you're standing on the stage." I'm shocked by this. Firstly he wasn't talking to her. And secondly we are well aware of that. "Yeah, no shit K_t. Thanks for informing us." I'm REALLY sick of her attitude. She's not better than us, despite what she think.

2. K_m - She's not as annoying, but like K_t a Nazi sympathiser, so I'm not exactly jumping at the chance to be her friend. We were looking at some of the concepts and we came across a REALLY cool one. The theme we all had to use was White Space, yes, shitty, but the theme nontheless. This person had a blank auditorium with a beam of light shining onto a single chair illuminating it. A good idea for several reasons: they are the chosen one in a design sense, they are the centre of attention, and also it plays with the space theme and aliens and all. A really nice concept. "No!", K_m says. I question her. "It makes me think of aliens", she replies. "Yeah exactly, it's a cool concept. It works on so many levels", people are agreeing with me... "No. I don't want to get abducted on our graduation." She gives me a look of disgust with a forced smile. Wait a minute, she thinks that by having an image that sorta could me alien abduction she's gonna ACTUALLY get abducted. Where's your sense of fun!?

3. J____n - 'Where's your sense of fun?' Applies to this guy more than anyone else. I REALLY don't like him. He censors people all the time. ALL the time. It's annoying. Anything moderatly offensive gets him angry, actually angry, and he has absolutely no sense of humour when it comes to sexuality, religion, politics, or anything and everything else in life. Don't get me wrong religion is fine but to wave it around and stop people from living a life that they choose is offensive. I don't tell him that what he believes is wrong, why should he. I think he's wrong, but I don't tell him.
So anyway we're selecting themes. J____n is the main voice for some reason. Probably becuase he's on the commitee. Colin seems to be listening to him and only him despite mine and Elvira's protests. Idea after idea are presented, some are really interesting and out-there, and he flatly rejects them because "they're not what we're about". For example there was an interesting one which the concept wasn't that great anyway but he rejected it based solely on the colour used. "As a bloke I think it's too feminine." I think it's really sad that A) as a designer he is afraid of pink. Surely he could appreciate the correct use of EVERY color, despite stereotype color notions and B) The color could easily be changed. And B2) It wasn't even pink, it was a slightly pinkish red.
Another idea he rejected was an awesome idea based on photographs of ultra-sounds of babies in the womb. We're about to be born and all that as a metaphor. It was beautiful graphics. Absolutely gorgeous. J____n rejected it straight away. Why? Because it could be related to abortion. No. I completely disagree. Mothers who love their children enough to go and get an ultrasound and keep that photo of their unborn child probably won't have the child aborted. Besides, it's much too late in the development stage to abort anyway. But despite logic he rejected it. I FLIPPED. NO! We can't be doing this. Anything slightly controversial can't be rejected straight away simply because it offends poor J_____n. Everything offends him! I put it in the yes pile despite what he said. We voted, it ended up getting chosen.
He also went out of his way to tell me he didn't like my design. Why? Because of it's references to drug culture, that offended him. I did a 60's psychadelic peacock that admittedly had references to drug culture, but so what? Just because the image references a certain culture doesn't mean we're all a bunch of stoners. I think people are intellegent enough to realise that graphic designers can use imagery and be influenced by other cultures without nessesarily being intertwined. But it just annoyed me that me made special mention of disliking mine. I thought his was an utter joke, as with ALL of his work, but I don't think telling him that is a particularly nice thing to do. He always criticises, never points out the good things. It's annoying.

Ok, fine, whatever! I'm making nothing into something, but I seriously was pissed off. I stormed into Liveworm, cursing and yelling and kicking up a big stink. I was annoyed. "We're all doomed! J_____n is choosing the catalog concept!" Everyone sighed. Sebastian looked shocked. No-one could understand how Colin could allow the ultra-conservative so much power in the selection process. It's just ridiculous. If we wanted to be conservative we would have been accountants. Artists are always liberal. Always. And they're innovative and edgy and exciting, and these themes should be in our catalog, not safe, dry and dull.

PS. The reason I'm awake at 4.ooam is because someone decided to start drilling in the house next to us. Real nice. Thanks.

PPPS. I just thought I might elaborate on the nature of the Nazi sympathising. K_t got annoyed at me when I was randomly bad-mouthing Hitler, which I think is an ok thing to do (the badmouthing, not the defending). "You know really was an intellegent man*, who did a lot of good things for the country", she informs me. Yes, I am well aware that he brought the country out of major economic recession and was probably not too dumb, BUT he did order the murder of 6 million people and more if he had the chance and start some little conflict, what was it called? World War 1? Nah, that's not it... Maybe WW2?! F*cking pissed me off. I wasn't even being serious when I was talking about him. I can acknowledge that he did do some good, but I don't think it needs to be brought up as defense whenever I make a negative reference to him. He was a bad man. Don't forget that.
Also K_m said something even worse, but I can't quite remember what it was. Possibly defending the concentration camps and the gassing of people. I don't understand how she can defend this action while still claiming to not be racist. What a f*cking bitch. How dare she!?

PPPPS. If you want to post some sort of comment on how you love Hitler or something, or try to defend him I will delete it straight away. This is MY blog and I will determine what can and can't be said. With that in mind that and ONLY that topic will be censored. I am not willing to budge on this stance whatsoever. Everything else is completely fair game though. If you're religiously inclined and disagree with my stance on disestablishmentarianism feel free to let me know. Or if you think liberalism and art shouldn't mix, please tell me. But don't defend Hitler. He was wrong to do what he did, and that's final.

* There has been evidence that Hitler was not at all intellegent, as well as evidence that he was extremely intellegent. Intellegence aside; morals should play a role in determining the nature of a person

KNOWING YOUR PLACE

Dopplganger

I'M THE EVIL ONE. Elliott replied back to my inquiry about a photo. It's kinda strange looking at the same name as you. You notice the similarities and the differences. We're generally similar, but with some good opposites that prove the doppleganger theory.

Everyone should find another version of themselves. Dermot has an Irish folk singer with his name! Ha, what a dweeb.

Anyway my doppleganger lives in England, but other than that I don't know that much about him. Wonder if he's in some sort of creative job. All the Elliott's I've met are, even the TV characters. Actually, maybe not. But whatever.

I-EVIL-ESSO

AWKWARD

I had a very sensitive subject with someone today. I bumped into an old schoolmate, not an oldskool mate, but a person I used to go to school with. Anyway she has just finished her degree in multimedia and had a hard time finding a job.

For those of you who don't know; we, the graphic designers look down our noses at multimedia people because of their inferior graphic design skills and knowledge base confined solely to the use of programs and not what to do with them. Simply knowing photoshop doesn't make you a graphic designer, despite what your cousin who downloaded it from Kazaa and made a logo for your company tells you. Long before photoshop was invented there was graphic design, and it's the principles used in these days that makes you a designer. Of course the industry has changed a lot, but you still need to know the principles not just the tools. Knowing how to paint doesn't make you an artist.

Anyway we were talking. And every time she tells me that she is a graphic designer I wince. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bad mouthing multimedia for the sake of it, I know that multimedia is crap. It doesn not teach design. I know this for a fact. i spent 2 years of my life doing the course and learning nothing. So when she tells me she's doing the same job that I'm doing I tend to be insulted. What she does is the same as your cousin does; use programs.

In fact it gets worse. I asked her if she had any knowledge in print design because it's a lot easier to get a job doing that since the industry was saturated back in 99 with web designers. "No, I do graphic design". WHAT??! So apparently multimedia kids see us as something else, and they are practising the true graphic design. I think not.

Throughout the conversation I had the feeling that she was attaching herself to a name of which she doesn't belong. I don't call myself an artist, I am not an artist, we share different basic principles, different morals, it's just a completely different beast. Same with multimedia, it's not graphic design. She may do some web design, I completely acknowledge THAT is graphic design, and I have no qualms about her referring to that as graphic design, but when she talks, nay BRAGS to me about some corporate ID she did for her brothers wedding business I start to get a bit annoyed.

SO in conclusion: To all you desktop publishers, multimedia-ers, and cousins who download software: You are not graphic designers. I'm sorry guys but you're just not. You need so much more than being able to use programs (which by the way you don't do very well usually, do you even know about color settings or resolutions? This girl didnt. RGB 72dpi images and wonder why they don't print properly!) you need the knowledge. You need to know about color, about type about semiotics about understanding clients, about printing, about arrangement of elements on pages and a multitude of other aspects in order to be a designer.

Yes, a good ol' rant but I KNOW all my GD'er friends will totally back me up on this one.

PS. I got an email from my evil twin* His name is Elliott Scott. I don't know where he's from or anything like that, but he emailed me because he found my blog when he was googling himself. Good onya dude!

* He is probably not my twin. But is most likely evil and is nearly certainly hatching a scheme in which he murders me and assumes my identity.

PPS. I posted a question on iLounge.com which unfortunately relates quite strongly to this topic. Here is the extract:

onesie
A baby sized iPod shirt thingo they're talking about

--------------------------

Ok, this is kinda a dumb question but here it goes: HOW CAN THIS BE LEGAL? I’m a t-shirt designer who is about to enter the big, bad, scary world of post-college life and am terribly unsure of copyrights.

The company who produced this surely got permission from apple right? or because its an entirely different product from the iPod and it doesnt show the entire image or the product they can sidestep that whole thing?

Anyone know? Jeremy, you’re a smart switched-on sorta guy, can ya help me out on this one?

By Mondayne on 08.03.05 at 09:15 AM

--------------------------

Mondayne

You had to go to college to be a t-shirt designer?

By Mtvkilledusall on 08.03.05 at 08:33 PM

--------------------------

Mtvkilledusall

Yeah, of course!

I’ve had countless conversations/arguements about this topic, but simply making shirts doesn’t make you a designer. Anyone can produce a shirt, but it takes some knowledge and skill to produce a GOOD shirt.

By Mondayne on 08.04.05 at 02:40 AM

I guess EVERYONE thinks they're a designer. It really pisses me off at times, and this is one of those times.

LANA WILL NOT SHUT UP! But she's funny and in good spirits, but OH MAN! she's killin me here. SOUTH OF TH BORDER

If for some reason I had to move to Mexico and change my name I think I might change it to Jimmy Changa. That'd be awesome. Like Chimachanga's. Like duh. What about you's?

GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN

Today is the first day of spring. Sigh. Springs fine I guess, but it means no more winter, and winter is cold, so no more cold. I hate the heat. I've only got one more Australian summer to go, hopefully it won't be too warm, although I know it will be.

That's it I suppose. IESSO

Esso

PS. The image isn't really about anything I guess. Other than the oil company. Which coincidentally shares the same letters as my abbreiviated sign-off. But you obviously know that. And I'm just rambling. I'll go now.

PPS. In a totally narsistic move I've been thinking of concepts for my own brand of Mondayne related t-shirts. Like anyone wants a shirt with my blog name on it, no-ones even heard of it. But whatever, this is one of the concepts, as well as the various crappy slogans I use to 'promote' the site. Remember the post-whore days? Yeah, neither do I.

POST 404

This weekend has been pretty good, I've been asleep literally the entire time. Tomorrow should be interesting. Sebastian has been pissed off at me because I'm such a crap employee; miss deadlines, constantly late, randomly not showing up. He's annoyed. And worse; disappointed. Sigh. Oh well, next week'll be better.

IESSO

PS. I think I'm gonna ditch the lighting job, I seriously don't have the energy to do it. I don't. Actually, maybe I'll pass it off to the second years, yeah, subcontract like. Get them to do my monkey work. Maybe.

WOMEN PAY ME TO GIVE THEM PLEASURE...

Once again my title doesn't really make sense but I'll explain it for you. See I took this online test, which tells you what your fashion style is. But it's obviously been paid for by Kyocera the phone company because every once in a while they ask stupid phone related questions. So the veil is thin at best. And at the end of the test they suggest buying a new phone. They're like the girls at bars who come and talk to you, and you think they're interested in you but really they're just trying to sell you Jagermeister. Yes, that happens to me a lot.

ANYWAY, here is the results of my test. Pretty shallow and obvious isn't it?

"Elliott, you've got a Fresh 'n' Funky style

Vintage tees, old-school sneaks, thrift store treasures. Cool finds like these are part and parcel of your fun and funky wardrobe. With you, it's all about making your own statement and dressing in your own hip and unique style. You might pair an '80s rocker t-shirt with some cool jeans or a cowboy shirt with tuxedo pants. It's all about how you feel that day.

You've got a mind of your own, and you certainly don't need a style advisor to tell you what to wear. And you have great fun on spontaneous and unique purchases — you just aren't going to get a second shot at those one-of-a-kind vintage golf knickers. And that's how you keep your style fresh!

While you’re keeping your clothes unique, make sure your phone is too. Click here to find the most fashionable and funky phones around!"

IESSO

PS. I'm interested in other peoples results, although I think they'll all be the same, cuz the only people who read this are my friends, and we're all pretty similar when it comes to fashion.

PPS. In an unrelated story I joined up to this crazy club called The Official Gentleman's Facial Hair Club, which is basically a club for guys with facial hair. And being a guy with facial hair I am eligble. Sorry ladies, beard or not, it's guys only. Anyway there aren't really any benefits for being in the club, but at least there's no membership fee. And plus every month they've got a crazy competition called "She Would Look Better" where you basically add some facial hair to a fine young lady of their choice. This month is Tara Reid from American Pie fame.

Tara-Reid-Hipster-Beard
Feel free to join up and participate, but remember it is only for the bearded/moustachioed/side-burned dudes. If you want though, chicks with facial hair can form their own awesome club if they want, and we can't be members. So it's all hair in love and war. Ouch! Sorry about that. I'm trying to control my punning.

PPPS. Yeah, I deleted the image at the start. It really bothered me. The guy looked sleazy and the girls were too sexual for my blog. Yes, I know, 'too sexual'? That's not the Elliott we know. Well it is now baby. Ok, maybe _now_.

WHEN IT RAINS...

I think I might file today in the 'one of those days' section of my memory. Actually maybe I might submit it to Guiness book of records as a huge '1ofTD's' type dealie.

1. Woke up at 6.30 am yesterday. No sleep for 38 hours now, so I'm somewhat tired and drained already.
2. Busy day yesterday doing a whole bunch of nothing.
3. Made a fool myself at work in with a co-worker.
4. Went home, worked ALL night on a job that I was told was urgent but ended up not being urgent this morning.
5. Arrived at work awkward and embarrassed around co-worker.
6. Left in a mad panic to get to an appointment to see my psychiatrist.
7. Missed the bus. Caught alternative bus which only went 3/4 the way there.
8. Walked the remaining 3 km through the bush in the heat, rushing, arriving late, exhausted.
9. Bump into the last person on earth I'd ever want to see. My ex-girlfriend. Run away in fear and sadness.
10. Psych. office had the heater on, uncomfortable and sweaty and smelly.
11. Reduced to tears within minutes of the doc's questioning.
12. Leave psych., go back to work. Still awkward.
13. Have a 'talk' with co-worker about how I felt about her, asking her out. Rejected.
14. Things are awkward between us, I feel guilty for putting her in such a situation. She feels guilty for rejecting me. Making me feel guilty.
15. Job I was working on works out well, finish it after some minor changes.
16. Leave work.
17. A few minutes after I get on train the client calls with more changes. He's annoyed that he has to wait till monday now. I feel guilty for annoying client.
18. Get to station, my dad meets me there. With bad news. My grandmother has died today.
19. Feel like utter shit, not getting a chance to know her, mourning her death.
20. Have to sit in a cramped take-away shop for an hour while my dad badmouths my grandmother and probing into psychiatrists questioning. Cry in public.
21. Get home, eat, listen to my mom badmouth my grandmother (her mom).
22. Get in fight with parents of their lack of respect for the dead, despite how the feel about the person, a little respect isn't too outrageous. PLUS I'm her grandson, they could at least let me mourn even if they don't want to.
23. Type stupid list, wishing I had a cigarette. But too poor to buy any.
24. That's it, stop reading now.

IESSO

PS. Might post more about my grandma soon, but I'm kinda at a loss on how to think right now. I knew it was coming soon. My parents don't seem upset (and I don't think they're just hiding their emotions, they genuinely didn't like her) but I am upset. Because I never got to know her, and make up my own mind. That was half the reason I was going to America, to see my relatives, but now...

YOU HAD ME AT HELL-WHOA

whoa_small

I talking talking to Jen today (yesterday I suppose) about something I find REALLY odd, creepy, disturbing, but also amazing and mind-boggling.

You know pi? The number? 3.1428561....... whatever. It goes on for infinity aparrently. Well lets just say it does for the sake of this post, but it can work for any number as long as it's infinity long. Alright, so we've got out infinite number and we write it down, it's infinite length, and then we look at the number. We assign a letter to each number, 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, etc, and we assign the combination of numerals 1+0 to equal J, 1+1 equals K, etc, and the combination 2+7 to equal . or whatever. So we've translated every number and number combination to every character and letter in our language of choice.

That's all fine, it's only when you start reading the string of infinite number/letters that things get all f*cking weird. So you come across a set of numbers that read: 3120 which can be read as CAT. You begin to find words. And then sentences. And eventually a book. And because it's infinite the possible combinations are infinite and you might find THH CAT and somewhere else you might find THE CAT, and eventually you will find every book that has ever been written.

Worse still you can find everything you've ever said, written in the infinity of pi. AND you can find everything you ever will say. And everything that ever could be said. Every thought, every single thing in the universe that can be described in words can be found in pi. But it's not like you have to search for these things and make them up. No. pi is a constant number. pi has existed forever. Everything EVER has existed since physicality existed. Ever since there were circles, there has been pi, therefor everything.

Now I'm not saying it's fate, or life is predeterminned, but it certainly is prerecorded, written there for everyone to read if they try hard enough. The history of the universe, whether it's truth or fiction and both, all creative thought, the sweet-nothings you wispered in your loved ones ear, the prayer you made in silent, you deepest darkest desires and fears, all written there, in a humble number, that sounds like and looks like it would be quite tasty.

Ok, so this is rather a pointless and DEEP post, but hey, I kinda am feeling that way today.

PS. In other news I've been disqualified from the GoogleAdSense program for apparently breaching their rules about me clicking on the links myself. In my defense however I was only clicking on them because they were useful, not to scam the system. Oh well, I made a whopping $1.01 anyway, which I will never see.

Gummy Bear

PPS. I think I might genuinely hate threadless.com . Yes, I do, it's official. I hate it. The graphic style is not cool. It's pretentious and annoying. It's monotonous and as Will called it "sell-out" it appeals to lowest common denominator style quirkiness. Dinosaurs, Lego, Vespas, etc etc. Where is the innovation the claim to promote? I don't see it. Do you.

And that basically sums up my frustration with t-shirt fashion design. Are original concepts cool? I say yes, originality is cool. But I don't think that it sells nessarily. Do you appeal to a small group of specific taste? Or do you make generic styles that most people kinda like, but not really get passionate about. I don't know. Maybe it's just me or something,, maybe I'm just no good at design or something, but I really hate t-shirts at the moment. They piss me off. REALLY, REALLY piss me off. In fact I'm genuinely mad right now! I know!? It's 5.22am, and I'm actually pissed off! It makes no sense whatsoever, but it's true.

PPPS. The reason I mentioned threadless was cuz of the gummi bear. I was comparing my style to their styles and, really, they're nowhere near similar. I could possibly change me style to suit their needs and style, but frankly I don't really want to. I think I'm sick of roaming the design streets, looking for 'Johns'. My design whoring days might be drawing to a close. I know, I know, where can you go if you want some corporate ID in five minutes, not here anymore baby! No way. This boy is comprimising his morals no more! For the next 8 months anyway. No more pandering to please anyone, I'm designing till I'm happy with the design, if the client doesn't like it they can f*ck off! I don't care. Damn you threadless, damn you to hell! This is entirely your fault. I may have had this coming, but you triggered it!

RANT OVER NOW. Sorry about that.

PPPPS. Can you guys PLEASE gimme some feedback on these issues? In particular Linus on both topics, particulary the top infinite number topic AND the threadless topic, I am interested in your response from a religious standpoint, and a fan of threadless standpoint. Also Dermot because of his fashion stylings and general coolness persuasions which sometimes are the same as mine, and sometimes WAY off. Also Elvira because she's so damn cool, she'd know whether I make a valid point or not. And anyone else who reads, possibly Glen, but he doesn't normally post, so I'm not expecting anything but something would be nice.

Ok, that was quite possibly the longest post to date.

HERE, THERE, EVERYWHERE

Gummi-ShoeB

Okay, here is an image I'm planning on submitting to threadless.com, but I need some help before I do. The gummi bear doesn't quite look 'gummi' enough. I dunno what it is, he's not shiny enouogh, or transluscent or something, so I thought maybe you guys could help.

Gimme any suggestions no matter how stupid they are.

PS. Also working on a mummy with toilet paper stuck to his shoe. Like the concept of these goofy things.

Gummi-ShoeB

Okay, so I slighty modified things, adding bubbles, changing the shadows + highlights and a few minor shape mods. Which color looks best? Should I perhaps do 6 gummi bears walking in line with the last stepping in gum? Dunno bout this. Less impact that way, but more colors. Oh, nevermind, I've got a 4 color limit.

PPPS. I just downloaded a clip of the Disney cartoon show: The Adventures of the Gummi Bears. It's generic late-80s cartoon crap, of course, except there is one MAJOR problem. The bears aren't actually made of gummi. I know! It's crazy. But they do bounce, which I guess makes sense. No, wait, it totally doesn't.

Rat-Poison

Lastly; this is funny for many reasons. From the Simpsons episode with the Gummi Venus de Milo. Which by the way was hand crafted from artisans who work exclusively in the medium of gummi.

INSTANT REGRET

I sent a letter in response to a note I found. Probably shouldn't have sent it, but did anyway. The shame, the guilt. Oh well, facing my demons.
