A JORB WELL DONE

HL Site

Hyu finished the site we (he) was doing for Helen Lancaster, after many-a-month. Well done to him. It looks really awesome! And she really really likes it too. There are a few bugs that need to be worked out, but other than that a complete success.

Check it out HERE

WHERE'S SHERLOCK HOLMES WHEN YOU NEED HIM?

Someone told me something in Khmer (the language of Cambodia) but she didn't tell me what it meant. I've been trying to find a translator on the interweb for many hours now. It's a fun little puzzle to solve, but still, it's starting to get a bit frustrating. Google offers a service where they translate many languages into English, or vice-versa but not Khmer. It wouldn't really bother me except they have a service that converts any and all web pages to KLINGON! but none to Khmer. Or Yiddish/Hebrew for that matter. KLINGON! That's not even a real language! Ugg....

IESSO

PS. I need one of the following people to help me with this one: Sherlock Holmes, Indiana Jones, Doc Brown or Macguyver. Shirley one of them would be able to translate it for me. I asked about 30 people through Skype, but no such luck.

MAD FOLD-IN STYLINS'

Admissions

Here's the final CONCEPT design for the QCA Admission pamphlet I'm doing. This is only the cover, but heh, it's something. I didn't wanna bother putting the whole thing up, but copyright and laziness stopped me. The inside's got this mad fold-in style image which together. For those of you who don't 'get' the concept it's working with the Laft Brain-Right Brain theory, and by going to an art college we embrace or right brain way of thinking... or was it left?? Anyway yeah, hope they like it, even though I have my doubts.

A quick note about the colors: The brown is supposed to be less brown and more grey, but the monitor cant display pantone colors very well (pantones are a different type of color system, which is mucho differento from the normal inks like cyan, magenta, yellow and black... but thats too boring to type up... take my word for it)

IESSO

PS. When I typed the post I thought the image was really hard to see, but looking at it now, the image is pretty obvious and my post seems really patronising. Sorry about that...

CRUMBS of THOUGHT. Or perhaps THUMBS of CROUGHT

On an unrelated note did you know that the Mr Fusion addition to the Back to the Future time machine was based on a coffee grinder from Krups? Neither did I, but it totally was.

PS. BEST WEBSITE EVER! Searching for a sound effect? Trying to hear a French police siren, or the sound of a tram bell? Well look (or listen as it were) no further than FindSounds-dot-com! YAY!

PPS. DON'T SAY YOU WEREN'T EXPECTING A SUSS COMMENT. But don't you think the game 'Heads Down, Thumbs Up' is a great euphemism for oral sex? I sure do. Another childhood game ruined. Success.

PPPS. Listening to multiple cover versions of 'When Doves Cry' and reading the archives of one of my favorite blogs. Here is one of her quotes that I thought particularly amusing at this time of night (11.30pm): "One more thing. Whatever happened to the days when you could end an argument by huffily saying, "Good day, sir!"

PPPPS. T'aking a page from Mimi I turned my home phone number into a word. WOW! What fun. KLO1RAK0. My mobile number is much less fun. 0G0B1XYUBO. Make-a-no-sense-a. I'm suddenly Italalian-a! ??-a

PPPPPS. A neutron walks into a bar.

PPPPPPPS. BEST COLORS. EVER! Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. So nice. So very nice. So pure or something. Damn you crazy primary school color system. Red, Blue, Yellow. Just seems so unnatural and gross. Cyan and Magenta are da booms.

PPPPPPPPS. BEST POSTING SYSTEM EVER! The post-script. Neatly sidesteps the need for literal thought and cohesion between those icky things called paragraphs. And totally looks less lazy than a numbering list type dealie. HA! The perfect scam.

PPPPPPPPPS. According to Freud (a relative of mine, by the way!) I have a major oral fixation because I was never breast fed. Which is why I chew pens (PENS! notice the lack of 'i') and smoke and etcetera. And why I'm so obsessed with other mouth related things like talking, kissing and of course dirty-nasty-kinky oral sex. Like. Duh. But anyway let's all get psycho-analytical on you ass. Which reminds me, you can't spell analytical, or psycho-analytical without ANAL. Ha! Read into that one Freud. Oh you did already? What? I'm in love with my mother?! And father!? Damn you, damn you to the max. I said good-day sir!

Best lines:

"Play it Sam, play 'As Time Goes By'"

"Here's looking at you kid"

"This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship"

"Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon, and for the rest of your life"

"I may not know much about anything, but the problems between you and me don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world"

"Round up the usual suspects"

"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."

... I mean come on! Those are some of the most famous lines from American cinema, and they're all from one movie! It's crazy.

POP ART or GRAFFITI?

I am working on some more stencils incorporating the concept of street art. I'm taking a rather literal approach by using images of popular and famous artwork from America at the moment, but I might branch out to other countries. Perhaps even Australia, if I can figure out what world famous images there are. So no, probably not.

Anyway I've only drawn 2 so far, not cut them out or anything, but I have plans to do a Warhol and a Litchenstein, a Rockwell, a Hopper and even a Pollock stencil. The first two listed might be in color if I can make the effort, so no, probably not.

THINGS

I got a letter from my ex-girlfriend today. It wasn't a bad letter. It was good I guess. But it's made me think. Actually it didn't. I'm only thinking about things now because it really had no emotional impact on me at all. It made me happy I guess, but that's about it.

I have absolutely nothing to say about her. But I have this nagging feeling that I should write something.

I wanted to talk to the unamed girl about this, but what is there to say? Nothing really. i wanted to talk to my friends instead but again there isn't anything to say. I really am nuetral about the whole thing, which freaks me out. if this was a year ago I'd probably be relapsing into the downward spiral of pain i knew so well, but im not.

I'm happy with my life at the moment. I'm doing some design work that people are happy with [and sometimes I am too], I've got a positive outlook on life, with the possibilities and potential to back it up. There is a girl that I really like. Things aren't too bad. So what's with this empty feeling I have in my soul?

Maybe it has to do with 'the meaning of life'. I don't feel right. I'm overwhelmed with things that are working for me, and have the potential to blossom into total awesomeness, but why then do I feel that something is wrong? I wish my shrink was here. Is a career the meaning of life? Love? A family? I don't know. Surely there is something more than these things. Even contentness with your own being seems to simple. Surely striving for an inattainable goal is better than reaching a goal and being happy with that. But that seems to pesimistic. Too sad to try your whole life to do something and ultimately fail.

As I've said I'm not happy with my design work. I can do better, and I will do better. But that's not all life is. So what about love then? Love seems to be much more important that a career. if you have love, it doesnt matter what you do. someone who loves you and is in love with you makes you blind to everything else. But that seems to naive.

And besides, my career has some potential to grow, as does my current [unamed and vaguely defined but nontheless wonderful] relationship. So why do I feel so strange? Maybe I need to take my meds. Its been a few days.

Please forgive me for this post. I dont want to upset anybody. I just needed to share my emotions. This blog was originally my online journal, replacing the now defunct physical journal. I hate the self-censorship i have to place on it, especially keeping it from the eyes of unamed persons. But some information needs to be written down, and this is the place for it.

PS. Having a crappy day. Linus makes a list of good things on his bad day, so here it goes:

BAD

1. Didn't show up to work today, Sebastian is annoyed and worse; disappointed.
2. Got an email from Amanda, bummed out a bit.
3. Made someone catch the wrong train and then that lead to missing her train, and then catching another wrong train and eventually stretching the travel time to 3 hours instead of 45 minutes. Feel guilty as hell.
4. Dont feel worthy of going to a party we were supposed to go to tonight.
5. Generally miserable.

GOOD

1. Doing some good work at Liveworm, my portfolio is getting better and better.
2. Nice to hear Amanda is doing well, even if it does remind me we have nothing to talk about.
3. Good to spend time with a certain someone. Enjoy every second with her.
4. Not dead?

CHOCOLATE CHIP or PEANUT BUTTER?

I went out with Tanner tonight to catch up and check out some cool bars. We succeded in the first, but being the Gold Coast inevitably failed the second. Anyway when we were out we were talking about some sort of crap, paying each other out for being gay or whatever, you know, the kinda stupid things guys do. Here's the best line from our conversation:

ME: Oh yeah! Well I'm not the one walking through the park with a gay guy!

Dammit I'm a fool.

Also on a similar silly talking topic. The two Japanese girls got back from buying their dinner. (For those of you who don't know, they're quite girly-girly with the giggling and cutesy voices and the whatnot, so anything they say is invariably taken in the wrong context)

AKANE: Want to eat my cookie? (with a sheepish grin)
ME: Uh, are you hitting on me? (shocked and confused)

Weird.
That's it for tonight. I guess you had to be there!

PPS. I don't mind so much substituting numerals for letters for aesthetic reasons, eg. D£RM0+ It's changing in a literal context that annoys me, eg. 'Homes 4 Living'. Eye-roll central baby!

PPS. I totally fell asleep on the train when I was meeting Tanner. At Beenleigh station I was thinking 'I might just... rest.... my eyes for a ... second' and then suddenly! 'What the hell!?' (phones ringing) 'Oh crap! I fell asleep on the train. ... blah blah blah'. Luckily the next station wasn't too far off course and Tanner met me there instead. He actually beat the train to the station. Which is nothing to balk at.

PPPS. Thought of another much-hated word, but I forgot what it was. So theres that bit of info for ya to chew on.

PPPPS. I love... lamp.

PPPPPS. I got me the mostest cool project EVER! It's (yet another) artist flyer/brochure/catalogue but for an exhibition in Shangdong CHINA! Wow, I can go to China. Well not quite, but it is in Chinese. I'm excited ever if no-one else is. That's cool! I am designing something in Chinese!!!! AWESOME!

A LITTLE BIT ELITIST

Ok, so you can accuse me of being elitist, or if you want, being a hypocrite because of my casual writing style BUT I do have some merit to my following statements.

I’ve finished reading The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, and was somewhat disappointed. The story was fine, and the subject matter was extremely interesting, but overall it lacked a certain something. There was no subtlety to it, no style no grace. His storyline was simple and dare I say crude. Nothing exciting really happened, it didn’t feel like a story, rather a vehicle to put it subject in context.

Now don’t get me wrong, in NO WAY could I write a better novel. I am no writer, I am just saying I’m disappointed, especially since it’s the topic of EVERYONE and everything. I’ve seen countless TV shows about the subject matter, which is the main element to his novel, which by the way; most dispute the accuracy of his ‘facts’. I just don’t think it’s worthy of the praise it’s receiving. It’s a popular book, not nessesarily a good book.

On the topic of books leads me to another equally pointless note. How many stories are there? It seems like only a small handful, and the rest are retellings of the same thing. For example; Alice in Wonderland, and Frankestein. Now lets look at George Orwell’s ‘1984’, which by the way I think is an amazing book. You can definitely draw some parallels between ‘1984’ and ‘Frankenstien’. You all gasp!? Yes, it’s true. Frankenstien is basically about a monster created by man, unleashed on the world, and in the end leads to his own downfall. Frankenstien creates his monster, lets it loose on the world, and it kills him in the end (spoiler, sorry). In ‘1984’ the monster is The Party (The Communist Party by the way) and it is created by men. It is let loose on the world (capitalism is banned and the worlds 3 superpowers; Eurasia, East Asia and Oceania are all Socialist states). The monster grows powerful and greedy and all-consuming and in the end destroys it’s creaters (by killing the human spirit).

But you can argue that Frankenstien is more than that, it’s about acceptance and compassion and longing to be understood. Yeah, ok, I concede it’s that too. But ‘Godzilla’ is this story, so is Jurassic Park, so are most monster movies.

Another example; ‘Alice in Wonderland’. How many examples of this are there?! Millions. Although I can’t really think of any off the top of my head. ‘Spirited Away’? Well what is ‘Alice’? It’s a young character who goes to a mysterious land full of wonder (sorry about the literal translation there) and experiences all sorts of wonder, but wakes up and it was all a dream. Or was it!? ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘The Matrix’, ‘Alien’ (you all gasp again? Doesn’t Ripley fall asleep at the end of the film and when she awakes she’s not sure if it was real. I guess she is sure, but there are never any remains [don’t argue with me on this one!])

BUT the worst offender is ‘The Matrix’. It has both stories wrapped up in it. The monster is of course the robots and machines and stuff, which ultimately destroy most of the human race and current way of life. At the same time they just wanted to be accepted (via The Animatrix films) and of course they were created by man. ALSO Alice is not so sublety used in the the first film; The White Rabbit tattoo, eating the pills, the mirror and of the characters actually mentioning the story. And of course there is that whole waking up analogy and not being sure if it was real or not.

So I’m not really sure if I have a point or not, but I THINK I might.

Speaking of ‘1984’ reminded me of a conversation yesterday and many times in the past, about the death of the English language. If this is a single pet-peeve of mine, it’s that phone/SMS/chatroom text or replacing numbers for words (LOL, ROFL, B4, CUL8RM8) they’re not only annoying but insulting. I understand the need for it, it shorten the character count, reducing the cost, that’s fine, it’s the use of it on signage, on TV, in everyday language, even in books! Space is not an issue, don’t patronize me by trying to be modern. Young people don’t appreciate it. I don’t think. It might be cool at the moment but it continues or gets worse we may loose something important in our language; intricacy. I love that we have a thousand words for the same thing, or that a single word can mean multiple things, or that a single sound have multiple spellings. It makes it exciting, it gives me pride to be able to use these different words (don’t say it, don’t! I do use the proper words when I want to). What I’m saying is; if we continue to simplify the language to make it ‘more accesessable’ to the younger generations then we will loose the pride in our language. If everyone can speak at the same level (a lower level) how will we distinguish intelligence? How will we have pride in what we say and how we say it? AND if some people hold on to the current language they will instantly be the upperclass, looking down upon the masses. They will be the Inner Party and the Outer Party, you will all be Proles. Have fun, suckers!

The reason I bring this all up is because we’re working on a logo for a company called ‘Homes 4 Living’. It makes me cry. Not only does it have letter/number substitution, it also has a really lame and obvious sort of name. IDIOTS!

Ok, my rant is done now. I can’t believe you ate the whole thing.
I’m Comrade Scott, signing off.

ANOTHER LAME TEE-SHIRT

Tee-Shirt

Yep. The idea worked a bit better in my head. Not much, but a bit. I might give it another go when I'm feeling less annoyed, aggrevated, agitated, a..... ? whatever. You know what I mean.

Yeah, so it was my brothers birthday. And as usual when my family gets together the stress levels were high. My parents seem to have this knack of getting really angry and bitter, but not actually mean to be, and don't mind when they're annoyed. So I don't think they were actually pissed off, but it seemed that way, and wasn't that fun.

And also I had a massive headache and didn't take my pills so I was feeling kinda crappy. So their usual antics kinda got me in a bad mood. But I was trying to be nice to my brother and I hope he had a good day despite our stupidity.

We went to a resturant in a hotel and it was nice, but getting there was a bitch! The elevators were f*cking up. People were crowding into them and whenever someone pressed the button the doors would open. The people inside were getting annoyed. The people outside just didn't get it, they kept pushing the button and the doors kept opening. We did this for about 5 minutes. All the while my rage was building. Finally I blurted out: "Use another f*cking elevator!". My family looked at me shockedly. The people in the elevator were embarrassed/annoyed and the old people outside of it looked at me unapprovingly.

I tend to have a short temper when I'm not feeling good + stressed + flustered from hanging with my parents + generally. Remember the great 'Passion of the Christ' disaster? Yeah, try ready the old post.

IESSO

PS. For the guys and gals at the worm: yeah, my brother liked the shirt. Good thing too... cuz he hated everything else. 'Cept the money. Gots to love money.
PPS. I'm totally not a golfer, but I figure the generic quirkiness involved, coupled with the pants might make it work on Threadless. If I redo it that is....

NO GARY, I'M ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU

Gary

Went to lunch with Unamed Girl (who will be called UNG from now on [and also prefers not to be talked about in the blog, so I'll be sticking to events rather than feelings-type-things when it comes to her]) We went to the park to escape the stress of work, which is actually pretty damn stressful at the moment. It was nice to relax and enjoy time with someone interesting/exciting/other good things.

While we were there we saw a pigeon with some string tied to his foot. Poor little guy. I haven't seen a bird bound like that since I was working my way through Thailand (sorry one of my favourite things to say, along with 'That's what my ex-wife said'. I've never worked my way through Thailand) ANYWAY We tried desperately for about an hour trying to capture him. First we tried just grabbing him. Then luring him with food. They didn't work. I took off my jumper and was going to throw it over him. Some bread crumbs distracted him, and I threw it over him, but he flew away just at the last minute. All we were trying to do was help.

He flew back and we tried again. Eventually he learned that jumper = capture and whenever we even reached for it he'd fly away.

But he always flew back. I hope we can see him again, and help the poor dude. By the way his name is Gary. Dunno why, he just is. Ask his parents why they named him that. I dunno.

So yeah, ya try to help someone out, and what do they do? Eat your food and fly away. Moral of the story, don't do nothin' for nobody.

Speaking of insulting people (what?) Kat came into Liveworm today to 'talk to Sebastian'. She read my blog. And figured out the extremely complex coding system for Kat (K_t) so yeah. She wasn't happy. We worked it out. She apologised for defending Hitler, I apologised for insulting her. BUT still, I must say this; her elitist attitude isn't appreciated, apology or not. BUT with that in mind I am a bit of a jerk, and should maybe stop writing mean things about people.

Maybe.

ANYWAY

It's my little brothers birthday tomorrow (he's turning 19 and is hardly a little kid anymore but I'm stuck in my ways!) so wish him a happy birthday!

MAYBE I NEED A JOB

I can't afford to go to work today. Pretty sad isn't it, especially considering recent events. But yeah, I'm fresh outta money. Like completely. So I dunno what I'm gonna do. Normally I'd ask my parents for some, because they're generous sometimes anc give me money sometimes (But not without a big lecture) but today they're arguing and I don't really wanna interupt that, and ask for money....

IESSO

PS. I was looking up ninja's to find a cool image and I found some wicked professional throwing stars. WHAT?! Who uses professional throwing stars in this day and age? Even assuming you're breaking the law and assasinating someone wouldn't throwing stars be a totally non-subtle way to kill someone. Wouldn't they (the police that is) be able to trace the throwing stars back to you with ease, because shirley throwing stars are not a popular way to kill people and the ratio of throwing star to non-throwing star murders is tiny. I mean come on people! Throwing stars! It's like having professional chewing gum. It does not make sense. What's next? Professional balaclavas? Or professional bags with giant dollar signs on them?

"For the cliche bank-robber with pride and integrity comes the new Professional Series Balaclava! And why not complete the package with the new Professional Series Money Bag, now with giant dollar sign in an easy to read sans-serif font. Only from Hacme"

That would be awesome!

INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE, INSANE IN THE BRAIN (or how I learned to stop sleeping and love the worm)

Todays was a long day! OH MAN was it!

Working on the ol' UN10 catalog, or as my peep's call it: Uno. And luckily it's nearly done! WOOT! I left work at 11.30 tonight after finishing laying out the text, doing all the illustrations, the crazy titling! the ... uh... other stuff (Shirley there was more than that!?) but anyway it took like 10 hours but its nearly done. Alls I gots to do now is inssert some photograph montages and we'll be cooking with gas.

Wow. Catchphrases abound!

I also managed to do some of the artist catalog I've been assigned much to the disatisfaction of some, and it's looking good to. I'd post screen grabs of these things but A) I am far too lazy and B) I cant anyway cuz theyre at work fool!

Ok, bed time. Gotta get up in 4 hours.. sigh.

IESSO

PS. Somehow I got lost of my primary blogging objective here tonight: I was trying to say despite all the work I have to do, and the lack of sleep and the stress and anxiety and all that stuff I'm feeling good. It's amazing how something like liking a girl and having them like me back (I think she does anyway [actually lets just assume she does for the sake of this happiness buzz I'm on]) can make on my outlook. I guess my shrink is right; I do rely on praise and reassurance to be happy, becuase I can't generate my own feelings of happiness and self worth. Wow. That was a total bummer way to end the post. Nope; how about this? I'm HAPPY! YAY. Deliriously tired, but happy. A bittersweet ending is good enough for me tonight.

PPS. Yes I'll shut up about being happy. What's with you Elliott? Either you do nothing more than complain about being sad and lonely, or you gloat and carry-on like some sort of school-girl with some sort of crush of a similar nature. Just be normal! - says you.

A LITTLE FROM COLUMN A, A LITTLE FROM COLUMN B

Yesterday was a sh*tty day! Everything went wrong. Damn Murphy and his damn laws. Anyway I found out that 3 days before the UN10 project was due that there were some MAJOR changes, basically forcing me to restart it all. Seeing as though it took me a week to get to where I was I wasn't too happy to restart and have only 3 days to do it. But whatever, clients are difficult sometimes, whatever. I had to come in today (saturday, and I'll be in 6.30am tomorrow as well, and all day monday to get this damn thing done). BUT it should be ok.

Unamed girl came in today to keep me company [sort of, her sister needed to use the computer, but for the sake of my self-esteem, we'll say it was for me :) ] I was really hapy to see her. We snuck out for a bit and went to go see an exhibition Kat designed the posters for. Design: not so good, exhition: okay, time spent with Unamed Girl: good. I'm really glad she came in today, it was really nice to have the company, especially hers.

Ok peoples [:P Jen] I have a bit of a confession to make; I am starting to censor myself a bit too much. For example writing Unamed Girl instead of _______, or not writing certain things because I know they'll be reading it. I don't know the solution to my problems, but the more people reading the less I can write. I guess I'll just have to resort to talking about myself all the time. HOORAY!

IESSO

Ps. I shaved my beard off the other day, and everyone at work laughed. Maggie asked who I was. HA! good one Mag's.
PPS. No photo's; camera battery flat.

PPPS. That bit about censorship wasn't intended to be a rant or anything. It came out a lot more annoyed sounding than what I wanted it to be. It's just something on my mind, rather than something I'm fixated on. At any rate I can totally respect the wishes of Unamed Girl for wanting to remain anonymous, it's more to do with writing about other people who read the site. Primarily people I don't like, such as K_t.
