THOSE BASTARDS!

49pmScreenshot

In my ongoing battle with self indulgence and egotripping I decided to Google myself again. WEIRD RESULTS. I came up with this.
It's basically a website that has my stuff on it. I'm confused. I tried searching their database for Linus, just in case it searches the whole web or something, but no such luck. Someone must be watching me. I'm afraid. I'm very afraid.

So I wrote them an email, and am waiting for some responses.... I'll post it up if and when I get it.

Hey - I was just about to send you an email when I saw this... so I'll just post it here:

Hi Elliott,

Well, I guess then a lot of people are losers (including myself) because a lot of people search for their names on the web... it's good to know who loves you and who hates you and especially who doesn't give a damn.

I know our FAQ is hidden at the bottom of the page - we've tried to explain that there... we're working on making that more prominent. Anyway here's what it says:

WHAT IS 49MEDIA?
49Media is an online magazine with up to the minute referrals to media (photos, podcasts and video) in weblogs. It's a great place to find out what people like you and me are thinking, writing, creating and saying about the world around us. Go ahead, flip through the channels - you'll find something exciting, stunning and cool for sure! And you can come back an hour later and you'll find new stuff that'll knock your socks off again!

And check out the 49Media Podcast, we're talking to the coolest people creating the content that you can find in 49Media. We're posting a new interview about every two days!

HOW DOES THIS THING WORK?
49Media goes from blog to blog via the links in the blogs. If a link points to a blog that has a feed, it sticks the feed in it's database and checks that feed every now and then for posts. It only cares about posts that have links to media items like images, audio or video. It ignores everything else. When it finds a link to a media item it stores a thumbnail (if one is available) and the link in the database. When you go through the pages or search for something it just goes displays the stuff it found while searching.

The only thing that isn't done automatically is putting the blogs into the channels - we do that by hand. Oh, and the podcast is also done by humans.

I hope that helps - if not please let me know!
